Once a year, Portlanders convene on the slopes of Mt. Tabor as it transforms into a raceway for the annual Portland Adult Soapbox Derby. Some are there to put their homemade, human-powered vehicles to the test. Others are there to simply enjoy the show. This year, the derby must go on in a new way. Instead of taking to the tops of Tabor, the derby is featuring mini shoebox style cars on a homemade track. The track is a custom built foot long track with a 13 foot tall start.

Well, not really to their deaths; more like to the birth of the Portland Adult Soapbox Derby as we know it and love it today. Portland Adult Soapbox Derby. The Portland Adult Soapbox Derby is a volunteer-fueled community event traditionally held the third Saturday of August. Portland Adult Soapbox Derby will roll on, though it will look a little different than the derby of past years. This year instead of heading to the mountain, PASD volunteers are building their own Tabletop Tabor, a mini-mountain model of epic proportions.
